Take a look at how we are investing in our facilities!

We know how important our council owned leisure facilities are to all our residents. That’s why we continue to invest, develop and grow our facilities and leisure offers to ensure there are opportunities for everyone to use our sites, whatever age or interest you have.

This investment is all part of the Telford & Wrekin Council’s wider forty eight million pound commitment announced to help make the borough cleaner, greener, safer and more enjoyable.

What we have done so far...


A plain deep yellow border

Free swimming for under 25s

Did you know everyone under the age of twenty five living in Telford and Wrekin can swim for free in any of our four pools? We offer a range of public sessions across our pools, covering all times of the day.

Carbon reduction scheme

In July 2022, we installed a new air source heat pump, added internal cladding to the building as well as completing essential maintenance work to the pool tank, pool surround, water filtration and circulation at Newport Swimming Pool.

Abraham Darby Sports and Leisure Centre

New indoor cycling studio now open as well as, a full refurbishment of the gym with the installation of brand new state of the art equipment.

Improved golf course at Horsehay

Upgrades have been made to a number of bunkers on the ‘Wrekin 9 holes’ side of the course plus various improvements to the current drainage system and pathways – plus new LED floodlighting for the driving range.

Gym refurbishment

In August 2022, we completed a two hundred and thirty thousand pound gym refurbishment at Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre. New cardio stations, treadmills, cross trainers, stepmills and watt bikes.

New LED floodlights

In September 2022, we installed LED (light emitting diode) floodlights at the Athletics Stadium, Oakengates Leisure Centre. They are more energy and cost efficient to run and will enhance the experience for those using the track.

Stirchley Sports and Leisure @Park School

Installation of new gym equipment including a range of “Accessible to All” equipment added to the gym to support people with disabilities in a gym environment.

Improved 3G football pitch

The 3G pitch at Oakengates Leisure Centre has benefited from a brand-new synthetic surface, new full size goals as well as LED floodlight upgrades which will generate savings for the council.

What we are doing next...

Oakengates Leisure Centre
Work will be carried out from Autumn 2023 as part of the council’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral. We will undertake essential maintenance work which will include replacing external windows, work to the swimming pool tank, pool surround, water filtration and circulation systems.
